Isaac Atsiaya Lihanda

My name is Isaac Atsiaya Lihanda, and I was born in western Kenya, was raised in the Rift Valley, I graduated from Friends Theological College Kaimosi Kenya (western region), and currently I live close to Mombasa in the coastal region.

I’m a former representative of Friendly Water for the World (https://friendlywater.org/) in the southern part of Eldoret. I’m the founder of Isaac Atsiaya Pwani Community Tree Nursery, which donates seedlings of medicinal and fruit trees to farmers in the coastal region of Kenya.

With my friend Mercy, I started the Suzanne Livingston Center: a school that provides free education to children affected by climate change, and through our tree-planting program we teach them the importance of sustainable practices.

I am also making films to show the world how climate change has impacted coastal communities. You can find one of my videos on the YouTube channel “Bowen Lee”— it’s titled “Isaac’s climate change work in Kenya”. You can find many more videos on my Facebook page.

I live near Mombasa in the coastal region of Kenya; here we recently suffered three years of drought. Permagardens are the only solution that will refurbish the environment, improve the lives of coastal communities, and bring food to the table. I am also bringing moringa (medicinal plant) back into the market, which will be one way of encouraging coastal communities to plant trees and sell them to earn a living.
