If you don’t have time to volunteer, there are still plenty of little things you can do to spread awareness/support
First, an important note: When spreading awareness about permagardens, it is crucial to direct people to our organization. If they want to learn more or build a permagarden and they don’t come to us, they will end up trying to do it themselves. We wish permagardens were easy enough for anyone to build them without being trained by us, but the method does require guidance from our experts the first time someone builds one. Otherwise, people risk making certain mistakes that are hard to catch and that can lead to the permagarden failing and the family becoming discouraged. We want to cultivate HOPE! Which means the permagardens need to be done right.
Here are six ways – and there are many more:
- If allowed, post our outreach sheet in places such as: your local cafe, your school, your church, your neighborhood bulletin board
- Create a social media campaign to raise funds for The Permagardens Foundation
- Share with others why you personally care about our organization, and encourage them to get involved and/or become donors
- Invite us to present at your school, in your club, or other group/institution
- Host a fundraising event at your home, workplace, or school, to bring people together in conversations about global issues and donate collectively to The Permagardens Foundation and other relevant organizations working on solutions
- Give in-kind donations to The Permagardens Foundation. For instance, we reached out to local businesses in Berkeley, California and received several generous donations to use as auction items at our Friendraiser event: Seeds and a gift card from Westbrae Nursery, gift cards from Berkeley Natural Grocery, various items from Healthy Spot (a dog/pet supply store)— and Lavender Bakery donated pastries for our volunteers to snack on during setup. If you’re in Berkeley, please visit these lovely businesses and support them! If you’d like to donate items personally or from your business, please contact leslie@permagardens.earth.
